How to choose a pet camera:
from watching to understanding

At work or away, what you really want to know usually isn't “what are they doing right now”, but “are they okay today”. These are the questions worth asking before you pick a pet camera.

1. Do you want to watch, or to be told?

Most pet cameras solve the first: open the App and look. But nobody watches their phone all day, and the real worry is whether your pet ate less or feels unwell. For that, the device has to understand what it sees and tell you itself.

2. Coverage: can the camera turn?

Pets don't stay in front of the lens. A camera that turns left and right and tilts up and down can see the floor from a shelf. Think about placement too: ideally the room they spend most time in.

3. Alerts: on every movement, or when it actually matters?

Alerts triggered by any change in the picture pile up fast, and people end up switching them off. More useful is recognising what your pet is doing (eating, drinking, sleeping, playing, bathroom) and comparing it with their own normal.

4. Privacy: where does the video go?

A camera at home is always on, so where video is processed and stored matters. Ask three things: does recognition run on the device? Does sensitive data go to the cloud? Can the lens be physically covered, not just switched off in software?

5. Can you talk to them?

With a microphone and speaker, you can call their name through your phone; a familiar voice can be reassuring.

6. Does it look good at home?

It will sit in your living room every day, so design and materials matter too.

How the miwo Pet Butler does it

Question to askmiwo Pet Butler
Can the camera turn? The base turns it left and right; the camera tilts on its own; wall mounting too
Does it understand what it sees? Our own models recognise eating, drinking, sleeping, playing and bathroom breaks
How do alerts work? Two weeks to learn their normal, then alerts only when something differs
Where does recognition run?On the device; sensitive data is processed only on the device, never in the cloud
Physical lens cover?Yes: when its eyes close, the camera tucks fully under the hood's brim
Two-way talk?Microphone and speaker: call your pet through your phone
Looks good at home?A knit hood and a stone base; the knit is swappable
Where should I put a pet camera?

In the room your pet uses most, around shelf height, where it can see the floor, their bed and their bowls. A camera that turns covers more; consider wall mounting for blind spots.

How can I check on my cat at work?

Use a pet camera with a phone App for live view. If you don't want to keep watching, pick one that understands what it sees and alerts you only when something changes, like the miwo Pet Butler.
